Cascade Neighborhood Council formed.
1994
Neighborhood Vision Map. Cascade Neighborhood Council developed, through
a series of public workshops, a 20-year neighborhood plan.
1995
City Council adopted the Department of Parks & Recreation Master
Plan for Cascade Park, showing two alternatives one retained the building
the other did not.
Cascade Water Flow Guidelines led by the Cascade Neighborhood Council
outlined development choices for protecting the watershed.
Cascade P-patch developed.
1996
Cascade community members designed and built their first rainwater collection
system.
Drought-tolerant butterfly garden installed along Republican Street.
1997
Demonstration nature-scape garden completed.
Sustainable Strategies: Cascade Neighborhood Council Design Guidelines
completed.
1998
Alliance for Cascade Park formed.
Rainharvest Project completed the construction of rain collection prototypes.
1999
Environmental Works is contracted to prepare a feasibility study for
the reuse of the building. Garden of Happiness completed featuring a
salvaged plant nursery, water cistern, gazebo & bio-swale to south
of the building.
2000
Use Agreement reached between Seattle Parks Department and the Cascade
Neighborhood Council for interim use of the western portion of building.
Expansion of the Cascade P-Patch completed, including a series of play
sculptures.
Cascade Family Center begins use of the building.
Cascade Community Classroom report completed by Environmental Works.
2001
Community lobbies to not demolish building but retain it for community
use. Parks Commission recommends retaining the building. Alliance for
Cascade Park meets with Park's staff to determine the parameters of
long term use agreement.
2002
Steering Committee formed for the Eco- Renovation project.
Kick off event held to gather comments on conceptual designs and celebrate
award from the Department of Neighborhoods to fund design development
up to permitting.
2003
Steering committee is in the process of selecting an
architect, writing grants and soliciting in-kind donations for the construction
phase of renovation.
